Reflection 7

On April 4th we learned on the topic Digital Citizenship. Digital citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level. We also learned about the importance of digital citizenship. Digital citizenship describes how we should act when using digital tool with others online to use technology in an appropriate, responsible, and empowered way. It is a concept that helps teachers and parents teach students how to use technology appropriately. Today, it is especially important because we live in the world full of technology. By introducing digital citizenship to students at a young age, teachers can help prevent misuse and abuse of technology. We also learned some of the characteristics of digital citizenship. Characteristics of good digital citizen include; being confident and capable of using technologies. Protecting private information of self and information of others, browse safely, respect others and yourself, acknowledge others copyright and property.

There are 9 elements of digital citizenship; they are digital access, digital commerce, digital communication, digital literacy, digital etiquette, digital law, digital rights and responsibilities, digital health and wellness and digital security. Therefore, the main role of the teacher as a digital citizen are to help the students to take active role in the digital world, educate them on the dangers and obligation that come with using technology. Moreover, they should emphasize the importance of online etiquette, teach students to protect their privacy and promote media literacy in the classroom. As a teacher we should give awareness to the students about the digital rights and responsibilities like respecting the others opinions, obeying all the intellectual laws of the media and copy rights and etc.
